Performer Profile: The Vandals- Still looking for peace through vandalism. Though they aren’t quite as dangerous as the Germanic tribes that attacked ancient Rome, the old school hard- core punk band, The Vandals are still cutting a swath of sonic destruction throughout the world. The group is a little bit far ways from the classic line- up from the band that first got together in the Orange County, California scene that spawned such classic hardcore bands as Black Flag. The most permanent member that is still with the band has been Joe Escalante, who was the band’s firs really consistent drummer. The song was a favorite on the Los Angeles modern rock station, KROQ. Perhaps one of the keys to the band’s limited commercial success was that, unlike some punk bands, they were not overtly political. Rather, they embraced the more humorous side of punk as expressed through such bands as The Dickies, The Ramones, and The Wierdos. They did receive some approbation from more left- wing quarters of the punk community that this translated into support for the military operations in Iraq.
